UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge
UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC) is a nationwide mathematics competition in the United Kingdom organized by the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT). It is aimed at students in secondary school (typically Year 13 and below) and consists of a 90-minute multiple-choice exam with challenging problem-solving questions designed to test mathematical reasoning, creativity, and logical thinking rather than routine computation.
Significance
The SMC is one of the most widely participated mathematics contests in the UK and serves as the first stage in the UKMT competition pathway, leading to the Senior Kangaroo, Senior Olympiad, and IMO selection routes. High scorers receive Gold, Silver, or Bronze certificates.
